Nitish Kumar has resigned as the Bihar Chief Minister on May
17 taking responsibility for the loss in the Lok Sabha polls. He has submitted his resignation to Bihar Governor D Y Patil. In his reaction to the poll results, the Janata Dal (United) leader had said, "I respect people's mandate". He has decided to seek a fresh mandate.
Responding to the results in the parliamentary elections in which Janata Dal (United)'s performance is quite dismal, Prof. N K Chaudhary, a noted economist from Patna
University said, “according to me Nitish Kumar should resign at this moment. I
am an admirer of Nitish’s socialist ideology. But in democracy there are some
rules. He should seek fresh mandate from the people. It is not necessary that
the results of Lok Sabha elections will get repeated in the fresh assembly elections.”
