NEW DELHI
Rashtriya Janata Dal’s maverick chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s bid to reclaim his gaddi in Patna, in alliance with Ram Vilas Paswan, is resulting in a mass exodus from his party on the eve of Bihar elections. If the former RJD MP and Union Minister Akhilesh Singh on Monday joined the Congress citing the new Paswan-Yadav alliance as the reason for the switch, the former Bihar CM’s brother-in-law Subhash Yadav quit the party without revealing which party he would be jumping on to. Both said, “Laloo is sinking ship” as he has abandoned his old Muslim- Yadav vote-bank to embrace ‘the Paswan’. Accusing as ‘dictatorial’, Lalu taking ‘suicidal steps ever since the last Lok Sabha elections’, Akhilesh Singh laments the RJD no longer stands for ‘M-Y voters, but for a P-Y faction’. “We’ve no place in the new scheme.” While formally announcing his entry into the Congress at the party’s headquarters, Singh was quite candid about why he chose to switch camps without attempting to sound lofty. “I was unhappy. The RJD gave all the seats to Paswan’s party in my area, East Champaran. None of my people have got tickets.” The ‘influential’ Bhumihar leader, who was formerly the RJD MP from Motihari, said thanks to Lalu’s decision to hand over 75 seats to Paswan’s LJP, “Not a single leader from the minority community or the upper castes have got tickets in Motihari, Arwal or Jehanabad. It has all gone to the LJP and the Paswans”.

Well, no one in the Congress briefed him that Rahul Gandhi’s campaign line is: ‘Rid Bihar of caste politics’. But, then the Congress in-charge of the state, Mukul Wasnik, has his hands full — given, the number of party-hoppers that the Congress have welcomed into its fold in the last couple of days.
