Professor Mujib condemns anti-Islamic remark of columnist Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury; calls to seek unconditional apology for hurting religious sentiment
SUNDAY, 05TH JULY, 2015
Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 5th July, 2015 protesting, condemning and gainsaying the foul and concocted statement of columnist Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury which he has delivered in a discussion on 3rd July at the Bangladesh Permanent Mission in New York titled 'Bangladesh: Present, Past and Future' in regards to 99 names of the Almighty Allah, Arabic language, wearing Hijab by the Muslim ladies and about the name of Hazrat Abu Bakar (R) and Abu Huraira (R), the two famous companions of the holy Prophet (pbuH).
"I am severely protesting and condemning the concocted statement of columnist Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury in a discussion program in New York in regards to the 99 names of the Almighty Allah, Arabic language, wearing Hijab by the Muslim ladies and about the name of Hazrat Abu Bakar (R) and Abu Huraira (R), the two famous companions of the holy Prophet (pbuH). By delivering the concocted and false statement he has hurt the religious sentiment and belief of the 150 crore Muslims around the world. Muslims from around the world are aggrieved and dissatisfied with his statement.
By making this irresponsible comment, he proved himself as a man against Islam and Muslim spirit. He has no authority to utter such negative words about Arabic language and wearing Hijab by the Muslim ladies. His comments exposed his ignorance about Islam and Islamic culture. He also made abusive words about the practicing Muslims just to tarnish their image. No Muslim can deliver such an illogical and irrelevant statement. His comments and remarks have emanated question whether he is a Muslim or not. It is the duty and obligation of every Muslim to raise voice against his derogatory statement about Islam and religious features.
I am urging Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury to withdraw his statement immediately and to seek Tawba before Almighty Allah and finally to beg mercy and unconditional apology to the Muslim people around the world."
