Will political parties select practising Advocates as candidates during upcoming assembly elections in Bihar?

There is a growing mass of critical public opinion which holds that the services of practising Advocates ought to be preferred to combat sinister effort by upper economic class and the collaborators in bureaucracy and media to undermine the role of the political class.

The law makers cannot do justice if parties do not nurture them and make them true architects of law in a situation where law making is lagging due to it’s the failure of law makers to keep pace with the rate of scientific and technological development and to ensure that tycoons remain subservient to the sovereign will of the citizens. Jawahar Lal Nehru, the author of Discovery of India, being an Advocate had envisaged a nation which will adopt scientific temper and the spirit of inquiry which does not promote concentration of wealth and means of production in few hands.

Bihar, being the land of Goutama, the founder of Nyaya philosophy and author of The Nayaya Sutras, Mahatma Buddha, the founder of Buddhist philosophy, Ashoka and the site of the great debate on Advaita philosophy between Mandan Mishra, Shankaracharya and Bharti has the potential to revive the tradition of vaad (honest debate) in the pursuit of truth and justice which is under grave assault from the practitioners of Jalpa (sophistry, the bad debate), Vitanda (debate without counter-thesis). The advocates can help revive this glorious tradition and the democratic spirit of Vaishali which are immensely valued under your moral leadership, which represents the hopes of aspiration of all the justice loving fellow citizens. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the great Advocate had underlined that democratic government is a government by dialogue. It is an established philosophical proposition that best argument alone serves the public interest and fairness beyond parochial utilitarian and contractarian considerations, where no fellow citizen is dispensable and superfluous.

The practising advocates belong to an honourable profession. The profession requires them to be rational, just, scientific and above all parochial considerations. The conduct of practising advocates is sensitive to the common people in general and deprived sections of the society in particular. Jurists have referred to them as social engineers. The involvement of Advocates in the social economic and political movements enriched the movements and the deliberations in the Constituent Assembly which resulted in the adoption of the Constitution of India, the most revolutionary fundamental law of our great country. As inheritors of this glorious legacy, the Advocates pursue the cause of comprehensive justice to the best of their capability. Give the fact that your party is quite concerned about ensuring social economic political justice to all sections of our fellow citizens, there is a compelling need to allocate at least 25% of tickets to the practising advocates including woman Advocates during the upcoming elections in the State of Bihar. This step will uplift the standard of debate in the legislatures which befits the stature of argumentative Indians by ignoring candidates with criminal and shady financial antecedents of candidates.
