Panchayat Teacher recruitment case from Jehanabad reaches Supreme Court

In Vimal Kumar vs. The State of Bihar (2024), Patna High Court's Division Bench of Chief Justice K. Vinod Chandran and Harish Kumar heard the appeal which revolved around who is entitled to be appointed to the post of Panchayat Teacher in the Gram Panchayat Khudauri, Hulasganj, Jehanabad. The Court noted that between Sanjeev Kumar and Vimal Kumar; the former was more meritorious.

In its judgement dated May 14, 2024, the Division Bench concluded:"we are of the opinion that merit should not be compromised, especially in the appointment of teachers and Sanjeev Kumar, as held by the State Appellate Authority and the learned Single Judge, is competent to be appointed to the roster point 39; on the services of the earlier appointee having been dispensed with.We find absolutely no reason to interfere with the judgement of the learned Single Judge and dismiss the appeal in limine."

The petitioner has challenged the High Court's judgement in the Supreme Court. He filed the case on May 24, 2024. It was listed before Justices P. Sri Narasimha and Joymalya Bagchi on March 18, 2025. Besides the State of Bihar, there are 15 respondents.
