Modi@365: Perception Over Reality!
By George Abraham

Is what we see with this government is perception or reality? About five years ago, the campaign of the 'Gujarat Model' has surfaced building up the image of Modi who is said to have transformed Gujarat into a modern miracle. Today, the Comptroller & Auditor General (CAG) report, which was published recently, tore apart the tall claims of the state government led by former the Chief Minister Narendra Modi, particularly in terms of agricultural growth, social indicators, as well as public spending on social infrastructure, fiscal discipline, right to education, and law and order. Gujarat is ranked 12 among states for its Human Development Index, and has a permanent underclass mainly consisting of minorities. Unless the citizen on the street is vigilant, he may be once again swallowed up by the ongoing hoopla of an imaginary world! When it comes to 'achche din' let reality be real!

Washington Politicizes Football
By Paul Craig Roberts

Whether or not FIFA decisions are tainted by bribery, the purpose of the "investigation" is to cast doubt on the decision to hold the World Cup in Russia. The World Cup is a global spectacle and conveys prestige on the host country. Washington intends to deny this prestige to Russia. That is what the "investigation" is about

A Real Threat - ISDS
By Ron Forthofer

Drafts of the Trans-Pacific Partnership scheme includes ISDS. Unfortunately both our senators and our representative are likely to vote in favor of TPP and ISDS unless they hear from us. It is up to us and others around the world to stop the TPP and ISD from wreaking havoc on the 12 nations involved in the negotiations

Iranians Rise Against The Pending Nuclear Agreement
By Akbar E. Torbat

To preserve the status quo, the Leader Khamenei has accepted the US demands behind the scene, while in public he is saying otherwise to restrain the opposition. Khamenei has told the opposition to cooperate with Rouhani's administration. However, he has rapidly lost support due to his backing of Rouhani to seal the agreement. The opposition feels this agreement will convert Iran to a de facto US puppet state and therefore it should not be signed

Mapping Refugees Protection Under International Law:
Legal Desirability And Human Rights Suitability
By Dr. Nafees Ahmad

Refugee rights are matters of international law to the extent they derive from one of the accepted trio of international law sources: treaties, custom, or general principles of law. But while technically correct, this facile response fails to do justice to real disagreements about how rules derived from custom or general principles are to be identified and, more specifically, about whether general rules of recognition can fairly be applied to the identification of human rights norms

Prof. David Mumford Expresses Solidarity With Ambedkar Periyar Study Circle
By Prof. David Mumford

"I was deeply shocked that the Ambedkar Periyar Study Circle was "derecognised". I believe campuses must allow open discussion of divisive issues even when it offends some people so that all aspects of an issue are out in the open. Today's youth are tomorrow's leaders and one wants them to think deeply about the direction in which we are all headed"
