Kejriwal orders probe into gas price hike issue, names Moily, Deora

Note:Gurudas Dasgupta of CPI and Tapan Sen of CPIM were the first to raise the issue. It is quite logical to expect that their parties will support AAP's efforts in pursuing the case against the company and ministers in question. The company in question had forced removal of S Jaipal Reddy when he had refused to succumb to its pressure. In his place ministers of weaker spine were brought in. The upcoming elections in 2014 is becoming quite important with regard to corporate role in demolishing regulatory agencies and regulators. Corporate crimes undermines democracy more than street crimes. The response of Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi will reveal how they plan to deal with corporate crimes.

RIL down over 2% after Delhi govt files case against Ambani

Shares of Reliance Industries Ltd. on Tuesday fell by over 2 per cent after the Delhi Government ordered filing of criminal cases against its chief Mukesh Ambani and others, following complaints of irregularities in pricing of natural gas in KG basin.
After falling 2.26 per cent to Rs. 803 in intra-day trade, RIL’s scrip finally ended at Rs. 805.50, down 1.96 per cent on the BSE.
At the NSE, the scrip closed 2.21 per cent lower at Rs. 803.75.
Delhi Government on Tuesday ordered filing of criminal cases against Union Minister Veerappa Moily, former minister Murli Deora, Reliance Industries chief Mukesh Ambani and others following complaints of irregularities in pricing of natural gas in KG basin.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) of Delhi Government has been asked to probe the matter based on a complaint filed by former Cabinet Secretary T.S.R. Subrmanian, Admiral Tahiliani, former Navy Chief and eminent lawyer Kamini Jaiswal besides a former Expenditure Secretary.
“Today we have asked the ACB to probe the case. We are filing a criminal case against Murli Deora. FIRs are being filed against Moily, Mukesh Ambani former DG of Hydrocarbons V.K. Sibal, Reliance Industries Ltd. and others,” he said addressing a press conference in New Delhi.
Without explaining whether Delhi Government has jurisdiction to probe the case, Mr. Kejriwal alleged that Reliance Industries Ltd. was benefited as Oil Ministry decided to hike the natural gas price to $8 per million British thermal unit as against current $4.2 from April 1.
He alleged that RIL did not produce adequate gas from eastern offshore KG basin block so as to put pressure on the government to hike the price.
Reliance Industries Ltd. declined to comment.
Fall in the bellwether stock was the biggest dampener for the broader market that closed on a flat note, with the benchmark Sensex ending at 20,363.37, up 29.10 points.
Comments
Kejriwal's action has nothing to do with the stock value of RIL. The market cannot support the stock value of RIL and the Dalal street pundits have to come up an explanation other than the real reason.

Kejriwal orders probe into gas price hike issue, names Moily, Deora

Oil Minister rejects charges saying prices of petroleum products are fixed according to expert advice

The Delhi Government on Tuesday ordered the filing of criminal cases against Union minister Veerappa Moily, former minister Murli Deora, Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani and others following complaints of irregularities in pricing of natural gas in the KG basin.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Delhi Government has been asked to probe the matter based on a complaint filed by former Cabinet Secretary TSR Subrmanian, Admiral Tahiliani, former Navy Chief and eminent lawyer Kamini Jaiswal besides a former Expenditure Secretary.
“Today we have asked the ACB to probe the case. We are filing a criminal case against Murli Deora. FIRs are being filed against Moily, Mukesh Ambani former DG of Hydrocarbons V K Sibal, Reliance Industries Ltd and others,” he said addressing a press conference here.
Without explaining whether the Delhi Government has jurisdiction to probe the case, Mr Kejriwal alleged that Reliance Industries Ltd was benefited as Oil Ministry decided to hike the natural gas price to USD 8 per million British thermal unit as against current USD 4.2 from April 1.
He alleged that RIL did not produce adequate gas from eastern offshore KG basin block so as to put pressure on the government to hike the price. Reliance did not offer any immediate comments on the issue.
Union Petroleum Minister M Veerappa Moily however, rejected Mr Kejriwal’s allegations, saying price of petroleum products was fixed according to expert advice.
The government has already approved a proposal to price domestic gas at an average of international gas hub prices and actual cost of importing gas in its liquid form into India.
The Chief Minister said hiking the price of natural gas will have a “cascading effect” on the economy as rates of transportation, power production, fertilisers and food items will go up significantly. “I am writing to Prime Minister and the Oil Minister to kept the decision in abeyance pending the probe. I will also request PM to direct all ministries to cooperate with the probe,” Mr Kejriwal said.
He said the complaint alleged “collusion between some Union ministers and Reliance Industries Ltd” that purportedly resulted in the decision to double the gas price from April 1.

Corruption and unethical practices are the biggest threat to every
nation and India too needs whistle blowers like Snowden. I donĂ¢€™t know
how many Americans support Snowden. But India is not like America. In
India when truth comes out, the masses show a free mind to ponder over
it. The way how Snowden is viewed in America shows the contrary? But
a whistle blowers life is always in danger. He is simply standing for
the interests of the nation. Even if it is for moments, it is
something glorious and courageous like of which the nation had not
witnessed for decades. It is more glorious because AK is in power and
it is this very power that had corrupted many in India.

Kudos to Mr. Kejriwal. We, Bangaloreans, know who and what is Mr. Veerappa Moily of "cash in
suitcase" fame, and Income-tax raid in 1990s while he was state finance minister. Nothing need to
be said about Congress fund-raiser Mr. Murli Deoras as a guardian of the corrupt corporate world.
And all know what path the house of Reliance Industry took from its inception to defeat laws to
favour it. And so, Mr. Mukesh Ambani now, whose closeness to Mrs. Sonia Gandhi is a hushed up
open secret. It requires tremendous courage to take on this evil trio together in the interest of the
people. Kudos again to indefatigable Mr. Kejriwal.

We only hope Mr. Gurudas Dasgupta, the CPI leader who tooth and nail fought on this issue and
failed in front of the stone-walling by Mr. Manmohan Singh, PM, of this sensitive national issue
now must join Mr. Arvind Kejriwal in the fight. India now needs such issue-based unity in its
political leaders.

It is an open secret that Ambani' s are close to the big political
parties and are huge contributors to their election/party funds.
What Kejriwal has done is, brought this issue into focus; "How do
these companies manage to get away with blackmailing the government
and WHO benefits from these unsubstantiated hikes".
Lets hope that at the very least Mr Kejriwal's actions bring about
transparency into how these companies get these contract's and how
they execute them.

"The government has already approved a proposal to price domestic gas at an average of international gas hub prices and actual cost of importing gas in its liquid form into India."
I'm not a expert in economics - but logically thinking, i think that anything domestically produced ( including the natural gas) should be priced according to local conditions for the benefit of the nation. If it is not so, we can as well close the KG basin and get the petroleum imported at international prices. I agree with arvind Kejriwal's action . I hope arvind kejriwal's action will lead to lots of debates and result proper pricing of domestic resources and in benefit to India.

It is rather surprising that even well educated readers of the Hindu are supporting Kejrival without understanding the ground realities > On day one when he took over office he found that it was impossible to full fill the 18 election promises. He miserably failed in Electricity water supply As days passed he got himself entangled in court cases He is finding a way to compel the Congress
to pull out the support and thereby becoming a hero. He thinks that people of Delhi are very ignorant of the fact. Instead of sitting tn the Secretariat preparing the budget and govern the smallest state every day he enacts a Drama like holding assembly in other places and deviating the legislative procedure. When there is custom to call the Central Bill as Lok Pal and States' bill as Lok Ayuktat he deviates and makes himself a here. What is there in the name? His absurd bill to empower the local committees instead Municipal Councillors is another farce

Corruption is destroying India. I quote a NEUTRAL WORLD-LEADER, Ms
Lagarde, MD of IMF:
"In India, the net worth of the billionaire community increased
twelve-fold in 15 years, ENOUGH TO ELIMINATE ABSOLUTE POVERTY IN THIS
COUNTRY TWICE OVER. ... Put simply, a severely skewed income
distribution harms the pace and sustainability of growth over the
longer term. ... It leads to an economy of exclusion, and a wasteland
of discarded potential ... it can tear the precious fabric that holds
our society together." (2014 Dimbleby Lecture, IMF). [my capitals]

In a democracy, citizens get the govt they deserve! So, it is up to
the voters of India, to EITHER play the fool in the political charade
that is being enacted, OR to critically evaluate past performance and
hold govts (of all political persuasions) accountable; to join forces
to begin reversing the destruction of India; and to lend a hand in
modernising India fit for the 21st century for their children and
grandchildren.

If anyone has ever listened to the Radia Tapes, (s)he would concur
that crony capitalism has corrupted our political class to an extent
that corruption in public life and blatant, brazen looting of the
resources of this country has been accepted as a status quo by the
masses. Mobilization of the masses out of this slumber will be a
Herculean task but should be and must be done for the return of this
country to being a vibrant democracy. The onus of this lies with the
young educated millennials of this country as much as the media. I do
not agree with a lot of policies of AAP but they bring Participate
democracy and Transparency in governance to the table and not just
preach but also put it in practice like no other political party in
India today. I think they should be given time to prove themselves and
not judge them too early or harshly. If their model of 'Swaraj'
succeeds, it would be whiff of fresh air in the political course of
this country in a long time.

While the end goal expressed by AK and AAP is correct, they are going about achieving that goal in a thoughtless manner. In a democratic country, the best way to reach this goal is to use the institutions and mechanisms available to do this properly. Instead, AK/AAP are using the amorphous crowds, who have as many opinions as their number to 'force' a solution. Why? For two reasons possibly more.
1. AK/AAP do not think that they have a solution through the democratic institutional method, and
2. They believe that that method is either too slow, or does not work to their advantage (whatever it might be; election sloganeering, or the more righteous and altruistic solution of ridding the country of corruption).
In either case, they are sub texting their contemptuous view of the Constitution, which they think is 'worthless' and needs to be by-passed.
What methods do they use? Rabble rousing and street protests? Take office, or take to the streets! Only one route can work, if at all!

Thumbs up to our Delhi Chief Minister Mr. Arvind Kejriwal.
He puts the big fish in lime light.

The RIL is indeed doing wrong to our petroleum, and the proof is that no reliance gas pump is active in Delhi and near by. (I haven't seen them work for even one day). If they don't want to operate why the hell they open in the first place.
The reason is to show on paper that they have the outlet.

and One more thing, as per the contract act, the agreed price have to me maintained. If the reliance contracted at a price of $1, it shouldn't be revised. except the mutual agreement of both the parties (in this case GOI and REL).

They have corrupted our nation and it is time to put a stop to it.

and to hide their unworthy work the UPA in now cutting the price rate of the CNG/PNG and LPG. It clearly shows that they are desperate and they will revised the rate doubled after the elections.

The UPA and BJP are both "CHOR"
Even their PM Candidates are not worth it.

Again Best of Luck to AAP

If punishing the looters is interpreted as populism, unconstitutional, unconventionalĂ¢€¦ one could not understand how to protect the Constitution itself from being hijacked by the wealthy politicians and business mafias. In the last 6 decades of the democratic practice, the professional political families have facilitated the growth of many New East Indian Companies in looting the wealth of this country. There should be halt to the free run of the looting groups in the system. Mr. Arvind Kejriwal and his honest and transparent politics is the hope for this country. @ Kannan and others : I am shocked at the extraordinary ignorance of those who have said Bravo to AK here. Not a single word uttered by him today is new or unknown. There have been hundreds of articles on this, a West Bengal based MP has filed a detailed formal complaint with the PM and a parliamentary committee long ago. Some matters related to the revised pricing is also under judicial review. Just as there was nothing new or earth shaking revealed in his last press meet ( w.r.t 2G where AK and team just reproduce what was already pout on public domain by Savukku a Tamizh site), this is also an attempt to be in the news. As long as there are gullible readers like this, AK and team will continue with his street theatre. He has been holding press meets on corruption, naming people for more than 10 months now. Kejriwal is doing the right thing by taking on the corrupt mafia. The Party is born to fight corruption, and this is what people expect from the party. People do not expect dramatic change in Delhi overnight. Those who argue that Kejriwal should focus in governing delhi - meaning he should not bother taking action against corrupt - are certainly those supporting corruption. They expect Kejriwal not to do any harm to them until Lok Sabha elections, after which they could safely bring down the government.

It is high time that the country mends its ways and recognises and
appreciates integrity in its people. A CM spear-heading a movement will
only lead to a civil-war like situation due to the awakening of the
people - though good, it is a very dangerous situation. Once Law and

Unfortunately, successive leaders have shown scant respect to the
