South Asians do not tolerate corrupt politicians
Sushila Karki (73), former Chief Justice of steps in as the interim Prime Minister of the country at the request of Nepali citizens and Nepal's Army Chief. Karki, an academic was Nepal’s first woman Chief Justice of Nepal's Supreme Court. Now she is the country's first woman Prime Minister.
Nepal's President Ramchandra Paudel has dissolved the parliament and called for fresh elections on March 5, 2026.
Simmering discontent among Nepali citizens due to corruption, unemployment and inequality erupted when Nepalese authorities imposed restriction on the freedom expression and communication of Nepal’s 3 crore residents. Some 35 people have been killed and over 1, 000 have been injured.
Like Bangladeshi in 2024 and Sri Lankans in 2022, Nepali citizens too made it loud it and clear that people are the real sovereign. New sovereigns chose the young among them on 8 September 8, 2025 under the banner of “Gen Z protests” to set the rotten political system right. Ramesh Lekhak, the MP from Kanchanpur 3 (Mahakali municipality, Bhimdatta municipality, and Bedkot municipality) was compelled to resign from the home minister's post on the ht of 8 September. All the opposition legislators resigned and have called for fresh elections. K P Sharma Oli, the third time prime minister also announced that he was stepping down. Nepalese President Ramchandra Paudel accepted his resignation. The residences of prime minister, president, the Supreme Court, the parliament, supermarkets and police stations were set on fire. Besides Oli Pushpa Kumar Dahal (Prachanda) and Sher Bahadur Debua are under fire. The normalcy which was restored some two decades ago after Nepal’s civil war evaporated.
There is a lot of speculation about the support the "Gen Z protests" got from foreign entities including intelligence agencies. The fact is that even the pre-existing government was getting support from certain foreign entities including these agencies. What is surprising about the realisation of these entities regarding people's anger and their decision to support the protestors? Those questioning the ulterior motive of Gen Z protests must reveal their definition of an 'ideal protest' which they would approve. They must come out with a white paper on the finding they got for their political and social activities.
