RJD EXTENDS SUPPORT TO BIHAR'S NEW CM

in an expected move, on May 22, Abdul Bari Siddiqui, leader of RJD legislature party leader has extended support of its 21 members in the State Assembly to the JD(U) government in Bihar headed by Jitan Ram Manjhi, the new Chief Minister. This announcement comes ahead of the trust vote on May 23.

RJD admitted that their support is not critical for the survival of the JD(U) government as it already enjoys majority but the decision was taken to support a leader who comes from a mahadalit community and to “defeat the communal forces represented by BJP and RSS.”

The current effective strength of the assembly is 237. JD(U) has 117 members including the Speaker. Congress with four MLAs, CPI with one and the two Independents have already given their letters of support to the JDU government.

Notably, 6 members of the current assembly have resigned. These include 3 from RJD, 2 from BJP and 1 from JD(U).
